CHOCOLATE LAB DOING GREAT AFTER TWO YEARS

Gus getting settled in his new home

Life started full of uncertainty for a little chocolate lab named Gus. As a puppy, he was homeless and in the care of The Humane Society of Redmond.

But good fortune turned his way when Lynette Ripley visited the Shelter in May 2007. "It was a match made in the Redmond Humane Society and love at first sight," says Ripley. "He wasn't even up for adoption yet, but I knew I would take him home." Ripley adopted Gus shortly after that first visit and has owned Gus for two years now.

Gus and Lynette

He is all grown up now and doing extremely well at his forever home in Bend. He is 63 pounds, slim, fast, agile and especially cute, really cute. He has the most friendliest disposition, very sociable and loves all dogs and people. He can frequently be seen on the river trail in Bend, his favorite trail.

Gus came from a litter of six lab mix puppies and was the only one that was pure chocolate. He is very special to his owner, in part, because he has one blue eye and one brown eye.

He does it all outdoors, a buddy that accompanies Ripley hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, cross country skiing, camping and swimming. He was just six months old when he took his first backpacking trip into Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. He now owns his own backpack.

"He is the perfect match for me," added Ripley, "and all arranged by The Humane Society of Redmond. I was impressed with the Redmond Humane facility and even more pleased with the staff, they were always so friendly and willing to give me information about the animals."
